STAND OUT - Discovery Of Purpose

WHAT IS PURPOSE

Purpose can be defined purpose as "the intention, aim or function of something; the thing that something is supposed to achieve." The subject of purpose is so important that no body succeeds till he/she discovers his/her purpose in life. The question every young person should actually be asking is "Who Am I?" "Why was I created (made) by God?" or "What is the purpose of God concerning me?" It is very necessary to look inwards in order to discover who we are and what God, in his infinite wisdom built into us even before we were born .

The aim of this paper is to help young people discover their God-given abilities. A person's natural abilities are the POTENTIALS or untapped personal resources that God has stored in the particular person. Man was created for a purpose. Gen. 1 :28 records thus: "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." This means that God blessed man, after creating and setting him apart for very clear purpose(s); this is the natural ability we are talking about. You do not need to fast and pray to get it, or go to any institution of learning to acquire it. Rather you need such learning to develop or discover what you are already having, as it is already inbuilt in you right from when God formed you in your mother's womb. This is made clearer in Psa. 139: 13 - 16 "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them."

In Gen. I :26 the bible records thus "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." In the above text it is very clear that God created man to be the most important feature among all his creatures. Man therefore, was in the main, created to take control of every other creature that God made; man also was created as a co-creator (co-labourer), in other words, man was created to replicate or reproduce its kind. We also observe that the verse was talking about stewardship - that is somebody who takes care or manages something for somebody. God did not just start his creation exercise for no reason. He created man so that man would profit him.

The problem with so many people is that of ignorance. Hos. 4:6 reads "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Here we can see that the reason why most people are wasting away could be as a result of failure to discover their purpose. Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah had the same problem as a young man before God informed him of His purpose for him (Jeremiah) see Jer. 1:5 "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." From the foregoing, it is clear that Jeremiah was not aware of God's purpose for him, hence his unwillingness to take up the assignment as ordained by God. Please read Jer. I: 6-7 "Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak." Most people pray outside the will of God concerning them. Do not forget that a person becomes extraordinary or super natural in ability when God's anointing comes upon his natural gifts or abilities. That is why we need to be prayerful; see Psa 37:5 "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

 THE IMPORTANCE OF PURPOSE

Purpose is so important in a believer's life such that it puts an end to a life of struggle. This is because God only empowers you to perform in the area He has assigned you; this is therefore, where you perform seemingly effortlessly. When you walk in the purpose of God for you, the difficult appears so ordinary. Challenges or oppositions become your motivator or teacher.

Reason being that your purpose drives you to overcome such seeming difficulties. In Zech. 4:6 "Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." Men of purpose are focused, they would not want to be distracted, they are not people of unsteady character, as Christians, they are very prayerful, and they are goal-bound. See Joel 2:4 "The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run." Purpose drives a man I You must understand that there is no such thing as self-appointed purpose. Every good purpose is from God. We therefore must be in a position to differentiate between ambition and purpose. Ambition means something somebody wants to be or achieve. Ambition is self-appointed while purpose is not. Ambition could drive a man to commit all kinds of atrocities. Adolph Hitler had an ambition for Germany to rule the world. His devilish ambition led to the destruction of thousands of Jews. So ambition drives a man to kill, maim or cheat. O! Youth discover your purpose.
